Crafts with Conviction

“Crafts with Conviction” (CwC) is a collaboration between the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), the Ohio Department of Youth Services (ODYS) and Crayons to Computers (C2C). Volunteer inmates at state-wide prisons and juvenile correctional facilities transform donated paper, poster board, felt, and other materials into flashcards, journals, maps, book bags and dozens of other educational and incentive items. Teachers take these products, at no charge, back to their students and classrooms at the area’s neediest schools.

CwC is our largest product donor, accounting for nearly 20% of the value of goods distributed during an academic year.

As with all product donors, inmates receive thank you notes from teachers and students.

CwC is an award winning program:

Non-profit Excellence Award from the Ohio Association of Non-profit Organizations (2008)
Peter F. Drucker Foundation, Award for Nonprofit Innovation (2002)
American Correction Association, Best Video Award (2001)
Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Gold Star Award (2000)
National Council of State Governments, America’s Best Innovation Award (finalist) (2000)
“In the last 15 years, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of helping organizations internationally and here at home. None compare to the quality, dedication, passion, creativity and effectiveness of C2C. C2C has definitely raised the bar for all not-for profits.”
