Why was this program created?
According to the ODRC, institutions are much easier to manage if inmates are busy. Wardens seek out projects which help inmates acquire educational and vocational skills, reduce inmate idleness, and encourage positive behavior.

What does the program accomplish?
CwC furthers C2C's mission by expanding its capacity to collect substantially more surplus or obsolete product and transforming it into specific teaching tools and incentives. Inmates add value to raw materials and provide teachers with many more hands-on educational tools for their students.

What does this program cost?
C2C spends approximately $72,000 per year for transportation of some donated materials, supplies, and staffing.

Does C2C pay the inmates?
No.  

Are there similar programs in other states?
Resource Centers like C2C in Orlando and St. Louis have launched similar programs, but they are not yet as extensive as CwC.  Click here to view other centers. 

How does CwC further C2C's mission?
C2C's mission is to collect the community's merchandise and transfer it free to teachers and needy students. CwC allows C2C to expand its capacity by recycling more product and transforming it into hands-on teaching aids and incentives, thereby adding substantial value to donated raw materials.

How does CwC impact inmates?
Wardens tell us that the incidents of negative behavior are reduced and that many inmates acquire educational and vocational skills from the work they perform for CwC. 

How does CwC help businesses?
Businesses can donate truckloads of surplus materials for CwC participants to transform into usable school supplies through C2C.
